Medics’ Inn Medical Elective Programme

Programme Aims & Objectives

The mission of Medics’ Inn, is to empower medical students and young professionals worldwide to embark on educational, innovative and inspiring medical experiences in Nigeria. We hope these experiences enable students and doctors to positively impact their local community.

We pride ourselves on providing quality support to students, this includes the Medics’ Inn Elective Bursary and support with funding applications. We have strong relationships with the hospitals we place our participants in, where they have extensive hands-on experience in a variety of specialties. Our programme objectives are adapted to the General Medical Council (GMC) standards of good medical practice:

  • Knowledge, skills and performance:
    • To demonstrate their clinical knowledge through history taking, physical examinations, developing differential diagnoses, interpreting investigations and discussing management plans.
    • To follow-up patients and explore the outcome of interesting cases.
    • To practice appropriate clinical and surgical skills under supervision.
    • To take part in case presentations and clinical discussions within the department.
  • Safety and quality:
    • To assess the safety measures in place in the Nigerian healthcare system.
    • To have a positive impact by engaging in clinical audits or quality improvement projects to improve clinical practice and patient safety.
  • Communication, partnership and teamwork:
    • To work within a highly skilled and knowledgeable multidisciplinary team.
    • To assist in the provision of healthcare to a demanding population.
